I was born and raised in Los Angeles, but our family moved to Montana — the Big Sky Country.
I have to admit I was a little concerned when we arrived in Billings and I saw a pickup with a rifle in the back window.
I wasn’t used to seeing weapons so visible and easily accessible.
But that wasn’t the real problem.
The real problem was the bumper sticker that read:
Keep Montana Beautiful
Shoot an Out-of-Stater
Fortunately, I didn’t have to use my finely honed bullet-dodging skills as we settled into Montana. Instead, I found Montana to be a beautiful state with some wonderful people.
It has been a great place to raise a family and to be a writer.
But don’t think about moving up here.
We’re full.
Just remember, if you come up here I know a guy in Billings …
