The Essential Part of Education

Words Worth Thinking About

Noah Webster (dates) is best known for his publication of “An American Dictionary of the English Language” in 1828.

In 1823, he wrote a book “Letters to a Young Gentleman Commencing His Education” that emphasized the importance of religious education as a foundation for a moral society.

“Let the children … be carefully instructed in the principles and obligations of the Christian religion. This is the most essential part of education.”

Noah Webster

I think it’s interesting to note that what Webster considered to be the most essential part of education is no longer allowed in America’s public schools.
