A Promise Kept

Words Worth Thinking About

The Promise

A very long time ago, a prophet by the name of Isaiah spoke of an extraordinary event that would happen.

“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

— Isaiah 7:14

The prophet went on to reveal even more about that promised child.

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

— Isaiah 9:6

More than seven centuries passed.

Then a young woman named Mary, pledged to be married to Joseph, was found to be with child. Joseph knew he was not the father and quietly considered ending the marriage.

But an angel appeared to him and explained that the child that Mary carried was not conceived by a man, but by the Holy Spirit—and that this child was the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy.

“She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

— Matthew 1:21

Today as you celebrate Christmas, remember the promise God made concerning the child who would be born of a virgin.

Remember how God kept that promise with the birth of Jesus.

And rejoice that Jesus came to earth to save people from their sins.

I hope you have a great Christmas remembering the promise that was kept.
