P. J. O’Rourke is a well-known political satirist and journalist. He wrote:

“Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.”

The above quote comes from his 1991 book, Parliament of Whores: A Lone Humorist Attempts to Explain the Entire U.S. Government.

The book was a national best-seller but the language can be a little on the raw side. The New York Times Book Review described it as “insulting, inflammatory, profane, and absolutely great reading.”
