“I don’t make jokes. I just watch the government and report the facts.”
Will Rogers, 1879 - 1935.
I’m sure you know the government likes to spend your money. The question is, what is the government spending your money on?
Well, one of the things the government likes to spend your money on is … producing reports on how they are spending your money.
Way back in September, the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party — let’s admit it, Congress likes long names for their committees — published a report called “CCP ON THE QUAD: How American Taxpayers and Universities Fund the CCP’s Advanced Military and Technological Research” describing how the United States has spent hundreds of millions of your dollars over the last decade to make China’s military stronger.
That’s rather significant because China is considered by some to be the most significant threat to U.S. National Security. 1
But through academic partnerships with American universities, China has accessed federally funded research in technologies with just little military applications, such as:
hypersonic weapons
artificial intelligence
nuclear weapons technology
semiconductor technology
With over 8,800 studies involving U.S. Department of Defense funding and Chinese researchers, this issue points to a rather disturbing trend of intellectual leakage through academic collaboration.
Isn’t it nice to know that the government is using the money that you earn to help the number one threat to the security of our nation develop a stronger military?
You might want to consider that when your politicians want you to vote for them or when they want to raise your taxes.
Before I go, I’d like to share a blessing with you from the Old Testament.
“May the Lord bless and protect you; may the Lord’s face radiate with joy because of you; may he be gracious to you, show you his favor, and give you his peace.”
Numbers 6:24-26 (The Living Bible)
Until next time … be the reason someone smiles today
